Some Good Advice from a Sage - on Beginnings

Paul Powell has been in my tribe's life (the Baptist's) for many years and he his a fan of pastors.  He wrote an excellent little book called Shepherding the Sheep in Smaller Churches that has a great deal of practical advice for the pastor.  In his chapter entitled, If I Had the Pastorate to Do Over Again, he offers these 6 pieces of advice.

  • I would pray more.

  • I would spend more time with my family.

  • I would give more time to developing lay people.

  • I would be more involved with my denomination.

  • I would take more time off.

  • I would be a better friend to my fellow pastors.

Sounds like a good place to start.
