On Searching and Finding

John 6.35 - Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."

Parched...even the word feels dry. Say it, 'parched.' When you say the 'par' air passes through your mouth and the 'ch' makes your tongue hit the roof of your mouth leaving a dry sensation. To be without wetness, to be dry, to be in need of liquid. If we are honest we all face spiritual dryness at times, times when we feel parched...we see 'water' but we can't quite get to it.

The ultimate quest of the human being is to know and be known by God. We might not want to admit it, we might not think about it too often...but in our serious, quiet moments we wonder about God. And wondering leads to realizing our thirst. A thirst to know God and have our sould filled with hope, love, peace and joy.

Did you know that at the fastfood resturarnt Sonic there are over 600,000 drink combinations. 600,000 choices, representing 600,000 different tastes. What are you thirsty for? Beyond a cherry limeaide, what is your soul thirsty for? You are a unique creation with unique problems, joys, thoughts, perspectives...What are you thirsty for?

Jesus is the bread or nourishment that takes care of our spiritual hunger and thirst. Our ultimate hunger and thirst to know God, our personalized order can be fulfilled by Jesus.

Whatever our background...no matter where we come from, who our parents were, what our education is, how much is in our bank accounts (or how little)...the promise of Jesus is that if we go to him with our spiritual hunger and thirst it will be satisfied.

The searching heart finds God has been there waiting all along and wonders why I did not try this out sooner, because parched is changed to drenched.
